Water is one of the elementary requirements for life on earth. The human body consists of 60% water. About 71% of the surface of the earth is covered with water. Water is our most important aliment and, among other things, it serves as a means for bodily hygiene, the preparation of food or for energy production. It offers recreation and pleasure and is, moreover, a very attractive and sensuous material. The Designpreis Halle 2014 deals with even this topic: Water.
The “Hansgrohe Prize 2013: Efficient Water Design” competition for young design talent rewarded seven fresh, exciting ideas and concepts centering on the topic of showering. This competition was a special prize in the iF concept design award 2013. A panel of four experts selected the seven most innovative, exciting shower concepts from about 135 entries.
On the invitation of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Austrian design firm EOOS, together with the Eawag aquatic research institute of ETH Zurich, present a revolutionary new sanitation concept: the “diversion toilet”. In the competition the project was awarded with a Special recognition and $40,000 for their outstanding design of a toilet user interface.
Duravit was on the winners' podium three times at the 2012 universal design award. It won the universal design award and the universal design consumer favourite award for its innovative OpenSpace shower partition, which was acclaimed by both the expert and the consumer jury, and received a further universal design award for its latest universal bath covers.
