This summer is a hot one. We’re desperate
to cool off – in the sea, a crystal-clear mountain lake or the sauna. Sauna? That’s right –
because if you want to cool down, there’s nothing like working up a sweat first.
At the international ISH trade fair in Frankfurt (10th to 14th March), the “Pop up my Bathroom Atelier” lecture programme will again be shining a spotlight on the latest trend developments in the sanitary industry. The Pop up my Bathroom trend forum provides an abundance of ideas, informative presentations and fascinating panel discussions with distinguished speakers and international participants.
Aesthetics and functionality: with Axor Citterio E, Philippe Grohe and Italian architect and designer Antonio Citterio are introducing a new collection that aims to exude value and elegance. It is their third jointly developed collection.
How will our bathroom change in the next 20 years? What can and may we expect from our bathroom in the future? Villeroy & Boch, Grohe and Matthias Horx's Zukunftsinstitut, dealt with these questions. This resulted in four visions that are based on the current mega-trends "Individualisation", "Health" "Neo-ecology" and "Connectivity".
Matt instead of shiny is the new trend for kitchen faucets. In future, the familiar mirror-like gleam of chrome looks set to give way to velvety elegance. Grohe too is aiming to radiate a sense of matt understatement in the form of faucets with a Supersteel finish.
Design for all! It is a claim that can be fulfilled with an architecture that adapts to changing needs and allows new possibilities. With its Vital products the Black Forrest based company Duravit wants to enable people with restricted mobility a nearly unrestricted individuality.
As Senior Vice President Design at Grohe AG, British designer Paul Flowers has been responsible for the brand’s creative strategic direction since 2005. More than anything else, he expects the progressive digitisation of the bathroom to lead to more individual comfort and convenience, but also to a stronger emotional bond – encouraged by snug design and more options in terms of equipment.

With SaphirKeramik from Laufen, a new material is being launched on the market. The hardness of this material permits shapes which were previously not possible. Together with Konstantin Grcic the Swiss-based company hat designed a series of new products with this ceramic.
It’s now 44 years since Goslar-based company Alape developed the built-in washbasin EW 3. The relatively small round basin with the white glaze was designed for installation in horizontal washplace surfaces in sanitary spaces. It was also the first industrially produced basin of its kind.
With the Universal Accessories range, Axor is offering its first cross-collection system of complementary items. The range consists of various rails, shelf elements and holders that can either be used individually or as an integrated system for the bathroom and, in some cases, the kitchen.
With the Vero bathroom furniture collection for Duravit, Zurich-based designer Kurt Merki Jr. was breaking new ground. In the interview he talks among others about challenges and current developments in bathroom design.
Right on time for Sauna Day, the Emser Therme in Bad Ems has enhanced its spa complex with a first for Germany. The new highlight of the modern and attractive wellness centre is the first floating sauna on a river. The two saunas on the River Lahn were implemented by Klafs.
The Faralda NDSM Crane Hotel in Amsterdam offers an unforgettable hotel experience. An old harbor crane incorporated three suites, all in their very own design. In the bathroom, the sanitary expert Grohe ensured a harmonious ambiance.
On 19th September 2014 it’s “Cast off!” for the International Exhibition Tour “Handmade in Germany”. The design exhibition of 100 important German manufacturers is starting its 15-station world tour.
