The demand for furniture finishes is high: In addition to the consumer's critical eye, when it comes to colour and design, finishes also need to withstand physical influences such as heat, moisture and other stress factors on a daily basis. Consequently, high quality is indispensable for guaranteeing resistance and durability. With Firnis, Alape now presents a new, high-gloss varnish finish which is about to meet these requirements.
Laminates and varnishes have been a fundamental part of the furniture industry for many years. With the attributes resistance to moisture, impact and shock, they are suitable for use on the front panels of furniture, counter tops and trays. Varnished surfaces, which are often produced by hand, using complex procedures, provide visual highlights thanks to their shine and distinctiveness. But they are primarily used for the front panels of furniture and, less often, for surfaces which see heavier use, such as counter tops.
With the new finish Firnis, Alape now pledges a exceptionally hardwearing material, which should unites the advantages of laminates and varnishes. The basis is a layer of white melamine, which is protected with a coating of transparent varnish. This is cured with the aid of UV light during the production process, making it extremely robust and moisture resistant. Consequently, Firnis can be used as a finish for both front panels and counter tops.
In addition, for Firnis Alape employs a state-of-the-art laser procedure, to weld together the edge and finish material for the first time. Glued joints are a thing of the past as the edge and finish material are fused together evenly to create a harmonious unit.
What’s more, the systematics of the furniture systems A˘system addit and A˘system init allow modular combination with materials such as glass, natural stone, real wood veneer and wood effect laminate; all of which contribute to the customisation of the washplace.
The new finish will be available to order in the Alape furniture range in the shade Brilliant White as of April 2014.
