Easy Living: Unrestricted Aethetics for the Bathroom

Obviously not everybody has a castle at their disposal where the various generations of the family can get together; but that isn’t actually that important anyway. The main thing is that both young and old feel at ease in the room which, for a growing number of people, is becoming the basic prerequisite for a self-determined life – the bathroom.

A dignified atmosphere symbolises the desire for the type of comfort and convenience that looks casual and adapts to the user’s style rather than whitewashing it with one-sided aesthetics or even the familiar, gaily coloured rehab look. Particularly in the bathroom, many of today’s target groups have a need for comfortable and convenient equipment that is individual but still flexible enough to adapt to the requirements of both younger and older occupants and guests – thanks to suffi cient space, a sturdy framework for installing aids later on and, last but not least, enough seating for resting, taking a breather, relaxing and playing. The kind of comfort that doesn’t “spread itself out” but is quite simply there. Ideally, it should have several usage zones for fitness equipment, an easily accessible washbasin, a level-access shower round the corner and maybe even a big bathtub or whirlpool that’s not just perfect for relaxing but has an invigorating effect as well. After all, we don’t just want to wash ourselves in the bathroom, we want to have fun as well – at any age. We don’t just want to relax, we want to stay fi t too. Ultimately, the philosophy for the chapter of life that includes grandchildren can surely only be this: it’s not how old you are that matters, it’s how you get old.
