The interior designer Isabel López Vilalta has created
a space “Gentle Strength” for Kaldewei at the Madrid based interior design
exhibition Casa Decor conceived as an exercise in balance and sensitivity.
Intended as a silent dialogue between contrasts such as the industrial and the
feminine, the past and the present, the project proposes a special way of
understanding the bathroom as a place of calm and connection.
“The proposal does not unfold as an explicit narrative
scene, but rather as an enveloping atmosphere. The sculptural volumetry
reorganises the space from a contemporary perspective, creating a subtle
contrast between architectural precision and the warmth of the materials. The
result is a serene environment that invites visitors to pause and reflect,”
explains Isabel López Vilalta.
Perception and perspective

A striking element is
the mirror suspended from the ceiling, which introduces an unexpected
perspective.

Aligned with this conceptual framework, the spatial
narrative develops in a gradual, almost intuitive manner, deliberately avoiding
immediate legibility. Visitors enter through a sequence of planes that are
progressively revealed, encouraging a calm perception. A striking element is
the mirror suspended from the ceiling, which introduces an unexpected
perspective, expanding the understanding of both the space and its elements
from a different viewpoint.
Likewise, the experience is rooted in a deliberate
pursuit of balance among its components. Honest architecture, light, and
materiality function as an integrated system: while the structure organises,
the finishes add nuance, and the lighting modulates introspection. In this way,
volumes are either revealed or softened, creating a dynamic and deeply sensory
environment. The incorporation of translucent fabrics and a restrained colour
palette also introduces a delicate counterpoint that softens the composition.
“The intention was not to impose an image, rather to
craft an emotion,” explains Vilalta, continuing: “We wanted visitors to be
guided by the space, to move through it without haste, and to understand it
through perception, not only through sight.”
Previous collaboration as origin

As a result of a former collaboration, Kaldewei developed pieces in a
bespoke terracotta hue, whose materiality and tone are now carried into Casa
Decor as an essential part of the concept.

This approach is directly linked to the origin of the
collaboration with Kaldewei, which stems from a project currently under
development in San Sebastián. There, the designer’s studio, together with
architect Ignacio Quemada, is working on the transformation of a former theatre
into a hotel. As a result of this process, the brand developed pieces in a
bespoke terracotta hue, whose materiality and tone are now carried into Casa
Decor as an essential part of the concept.
Within the narrative, the bathroom furnishings take on
a special prominence, contributing to a space conceived to be lived in. Among
them, the bathtub Nuio Duo Zen Edition stands out, introducing a multisensory
dimension through heat, sound and light, subtly accompanying the overall
experience.
At the same time, a sense of wellbeing emerges from
fundamental elements – proportion, lighting, and the selection of materials. In
contrast to immediacy, the emphasis is placed on calm, quality, and
timelessness. In a more secluded area, the sound of water in the shower adds a
perceptual layer that evokes the ritual of bathing, reinforcing its wellness
dimension. This concept reflects the evolution of the bathroom as a space
dedicated to personal care.
Common principles

A key feature of the exhibition is the Nuio Duo Zen Edition bathtub, which introduces a multisensory dimension through heat, sound and light, subtly accompanying the overall experience.

The ILV* Isabel López Vilalta studio has created an
intimate environment where the balance between light, material and form is
expressed with understated elegance.
This point of convergence, almost a natural
intersection between architecture, material and experience, is also where the
affinity with Kaldewei lies. Not through an explicit presence, but through a
shared understanding of design: honest, durable, and mindful of its impact over
time. The collaboration with the ILV studio is built precisely on this
foundation, where product and architecture engage in dialogue without imposing
themselves. Steel enamel with its purity, strength and circular form, integrates
as another layer of the project. Beyond aesthetics, both visions agree on
conceiving the bathroom as an essential space, where the technical and the
emotional balance naturally. In this way, the project transcends its temporary
nature and embraces a logic of continuity, consistent with a design approach
that looks beyond the present.
“Designed to be dismantled and reused, it will have a
second life in Kaldewei’s showroom in Germany, thus extending its lifecycle,” Vilalta
concludes.
