Human Scale:
10. Act Sustainably in the Bathroom

03/25

Water is a scarce and increasingly expensive resource, and energy prices are likely to remain high in the long term. Regardless of the size of the household, one of the greatest potential savings lies in the day-to-day use of the bathroom.

In a modern bathroom, water and energy consumption can be significantly reduced by using water-saving taps and hand showers, touchless taps, dual flush toilets and innovative toilet models. Cleaning agents can also be saved thanks to new types of WCs without flushing rim and advanced drainage systems for the washbasin. The correct use of shower toilets can also reduce the consumption of moist toilet paper, which repeatedly causes problems in sewage treatment plants. On average, everyone washes their hands 5 to 7 times a day, i.e. 1,825 to 2,555 times a year, and daily showering not only consumes (drinking) water, but also energy. Sustainable behaviour in the private household is made easier with the use of modern sanitary equipment and personal behavioural routines in the bathroom and can therefore make a significant contribution to conserving resources.
