The latest colour schemes are showing signs of change. In recent years, interior design has tended to favour neutral, subdued shades. Now, just as in the fashion world, it seems as if more expressive colours are catching on again. In every part of the home – including the bathroom and kitchen – colour is being used to liven up the space.
Colour per se is a very complex topic that is changing all the time; everybody perceives it dif-ferently. A colour never stands alone and must always be considered in context: it is the overall picture that adds meaning, expression and emotion. Colours are the result of culture and nature, of light and the complex interaction between mind and eye.
The colourways designed for Villeroy & Boch were inspired by nature and the seasons: the fresh green of spring, the bright summer sun, the rusty palette of autumn and the coolness of winter. And Paris too, of course – the French capital’s unique flair, typical feel and culture played a role in the choice of colours too.
As a result of these many personal influences, the colours are charged with atmosphere and emotion and thus able to imbue spaces with corresponding moods. They have been deliber-ately chosen to prompt associations and trigger feelings.
