In his role as Geberit’s Regional Sales Director (Technology), architect Dirk Engelhardt has been providing support for architects, planning professionals and fitters since 2004. Before joining Geberit, he worked for major German real estate companies as a technical facility manager. Dirk Engelhardt has been speaking and moderating for many years – not just at specialist events held by Geberit but also on behalf of external training organisations and partners from the bathroom industry.

Considered in relation to the bathroom, it seems safe to assume that the Silver Society trend also involves a trend towards individualisation within a certain group of users – a group of people that can be described in terms of their age. When it comes to the bathroom, that means an adapted idea of convenience – as well as the aspiration to “grow old with the bathroom”. This requires the bathroom to be designed as an area of life that combines convenience, design and functionality with the long-term goal of being able to use it autonomously on a permanent basis.

The bathroom’s transformation from a purely functional space into a personal comfort zone with wellness character has prompted many users to give intense consideration to the technical and design options available to them. Consumers’ high expectations of the products’ aesthetic and functional quality go hand in hand with the willingness to invest large amounts. For architects and the specialist trades, that opens up numerous possibilities and opportunities. However, these chances can only be used sensibly if the professionals involved are sufficiently aware of the often invisible solutions available. Dirk Engelhardt’s lecture aims to provide some valuable ideas and inspiration.
