The Bathroom Ambassador Franziska van Almsick in a talk on water, bathrooms and trends

03/17

This year, German swimming champion Franziska van Almsick will be returning once again to the world’s largest exhibition of innovative bathroom design in Frankfurt for one day as a bathroom ambassador for the VDS, the German Sanitary Industry Association. She will be one of the guests in the talks forum Pop up my Bathroom. Van Almsick explains why her partnership with the VDS is something very close to her heart with a sentence that is impressively simple: “If I wasn’t such a ‘good soak in the tub’ girl, then I wouldn’t be collaborating with the VDS for a third year.”

For Berlin-born van Almsick, the bathroom is a place of refuge, comfort and tranquillity. This is why it is important for her that people make the very best of their bathrooms. “If the bathroom isn’t already an oasis, then it’s time to make sure that it becomes one,” is her motto. The former professional swimmer knows one thing: water is a medium that has a positive effect on our bodies. A good bath helps to cure colds and to ease aching muscles and joint problems, for example. The beneficial effects of water on health are increasingly influencing how our bathrooms are designed.

In an interview with Jens J. Wischmann, Franziska van Almsick speaks about the effects of water on well-being, trends and the pleasures of bathing.
