Bette: solutions for a bespoke bathroom

06/14

Even though a new bathroom is usually a long-term investment, it can often mean having to make a lot of compromises. Because in reality, space is usually limited – and the manufacturers’ standard sizes are incompatible with the bathroom floor plan. Poor interaction between the various components often leads to makeshift solutions and compromises that detract unnecessarily from the pleasure the bathroom gives. Then tiles are laid to fill the gap between the bathtub and the wall or smaller bathtub models are selected because the door won’t open otherwise – some customers even decide to do without a tub altogether.

But there’s no need for that. Because there are individual solutions that permit unconditional comfort and convenience even when dealing with small and tricky layouts. With its made-to-measure solutions, Delbrück-based company Bette aims to give its customers a bathroom that satisfies their needs and wants perfectly. “Our clients expect top-quality products from us. And that includes customised special solutions for bathtubs, shower trays and washbasins,” says Bette’s head of marketing Sven Rensinghoff.

The days when Bette produced the majority of its output in standard sizes are over. Meanwhile, there is even a special department for made-to-measure products at the Delbrück factory. “There’s been a strong increase in made-to-order production over the last few years,” explains Rensinghoff. “In 2000, the share of individually produced bespoke steel-enamel items accounted for around 15 percent of our output. These days more than 50 percent of our products are made to measure." In a mixture of high-tech and hand-crafted processes, the bespoke products are adapted to the individual bathroom situation in the in-house customising department. Bette is able to produce in a batch size of one, permitting a high degree of flexibility and adaptability.

One key aspect of a made-to-measure bathroom is the successful integration of the individual elements with the overall architecture. Although floor-level steel-enamel showers are easy to integrate, the corners present a technical challenge when the trays are produced in large batches. In the case of BetteFloor, for instance, the corners of the tray are pointed and can therefore be perfectly aligned with the corners of the tiles. This allows the space between the tiles and the shower tray – and thus also the silicone seal – to be reduced to the absolute minimum. If an upstand is used, the silicone seal can even be dispensed with entirely on the wall side. The upturned enamelled edge is simply tiled over, making the transition between the wall and tub or wall and shower tray leak-proof and maintenance-free. The water can run off naturally and there are no gaps where water can penetrate and damage the fabric of the building.

Convenient tub solutions can be found even for difficult bathroom layouts. In small bathrooms, a tub with a precision-trimmed corner creates sufficient space for the door to swing open without having to compromise on comfort or convenience. The optional extras include specially developed drain and overflow sets, spring taps for the tub, electronic bath mixers, factory-drilled tap holes or made-to-measure counter panels that allow the washbasin to be positioned individually.
